Ok, I did not realize that the blip.fm suscription could get to be so annoying. I apologize to those who wanted to see something else on their friends page. I do like the shorter update form that are now all the rave: it eliminates the breakfast menu prevalent in longer journal posts and tells the world you are alive. Which I haven't done in 3 months.

What HAVE I done since I was last around here? Watched the economy news, like a friend watches out for the zombie apocalypse. Wasted my time doing nothing. I continue working part time for a lawyer, part time for the newspaper and part time for a school. The lawyer wants to retire soon, the newspaper is going through a rough time due to the lack of ad revenues(plus the owner told me he will start receiving Social Security benefits this year, so...) and the government is going to close the school. Haha! Ha...ha.

Took the LSAT, scored 156. Not really sure I am going to study law next year, because I don't have that kind of money. I enrolled for next semester to become a certified teacher, though.

Saw the Watchmen and I was not disappointed. Want to see it again on DVD, so I can stop and review to my hearts content. (Girly mode: The Comedian was hawt!)

I still have the cats and the remaining dog, plus my mother got a hen. She needs to understand that my budget (and my time) only stretches so far. Goes through one ear and out the other.

Let's see if my continuing job hunt brings some exciting news. Fingers crossed.

10-4 End of message.

As some of you know, it is that time in the Olympic cycle when I glue my butt to the seat in front of the TV and watch sports. The Olympics are one of those events that I look forward to. Or LOOKED forward to until now.
The opening was awesome, as I expected from Zhang Yimou, and no amount of downplaying (that it was lipsynched, or that parts were pre-recorded) will erase the awe and amazement I felt at all the pretty lights and explosions.
The USA athletes have always played a dominant part in the Olympics. It is a reality that I accept happily and had never bothered me, because there was always a sense that this was a world scale sports event. This time around, it does not feel like that. I am seeing minor events where the US is sure to win eclipsing important events taking place. I have seen gold medals go to other countries and the whole story revolving around the US tragic loss. I would not complain if I had options, but NBC has the Olympics by the balls. The American dudes, this time, are freaking ugly... I wanted to see more from Europe, don't make me wait until the World Championships.

Oh, I forgot: yes, the Chinese will eat anything...get over it, you NBC fuckers. If I see one more of your hosts grimacing while willingly trying out fried scorpions on a stick I will scream.

Many things have happened since I wrote anything of importance in this blog.

I broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years. We were having lots of fun pulling at a rope in opposite directions, never noticing we were not getting anywhere we wanted to.

My goddaughter was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA type 1). This is a very serious disease, potentially fatal with respiratory implications. Any financial help is really appreciated, you can donate via paypal to hivequeen2000@yahoo.com The blog where news about her are updated regularly is: A little Mage in the Family.

My mother's health has taken a turn for the worse. She has chronic anemia and has developed Parkinson's disease. Only by force of will she keeps doing stuff, but it is increasingly difficult to live with her. Her mental illness makes her unstable and uncooperative, her physical weakness makes it impossible to leave her alone for extended periods of time.

I resigned from the Lockheed Martin job, then the 2 other jobs I had lined up vanished or stalled. After 3 months unemployed I took a job at a local elementary school as an office clerk. The newspaper agreed to have me part time so I am complementing my income with that. I hope as soon as I start getting paid I will be better off than last year.

I went to Rome in November. It was the greatest fun I have had for some time. Little did I know that life would take such a dark spin in the following months.

And from the first, to the last time, the signs
Said 'Stop' - but we went on whole-hearted
It ended bad, but I love what we started.

Parting Gift-Fiona Apple

Your Score: the Wit
(76% dark, 23% spontaneous, 26% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. Feels good to be loved!

Things have been looking up lately, I find myself out of the depression funk I was some time ago. An imminent trip to Italy, the baptism of DeeVa, getting to hang out with my boyfriend for a whole lazy day and the probability that this will be available for the general public to apply in December have lifted my spirits considerably.

The baptism of DeeVa, my goddaughter, went smoothly. It was the first time I carried her in my arms, since I am paranoid that I will let her fall/ my skinny unpadded arms are too uncomfortable for babies to sleep on/ getting imaginary germs on delicate constitutions. She was a real trooper and did not cry more than usual while I held her. It seems to me that she is getting the hang on living quickly and has decided that it is her minions' duty to tend to her every need and whim. NOW! Oh, dear!

People:

If you haven't seen me around for a while it is because I got a recurrence of what happened on August 12. At least this time it was early morning of a week day. Went to the coolest eye doctor I have ever visited and she still cannot make a diagnosis. Until now she has narrowed it to one of two things:

1. Map Dot Fingerprint or Cogan's distrophy
2. A Dendritic Ulcer

What this means to me? I still don't know. I am suffering from terrible eye pain. Being a pirate with a patch for two days grows old really quickly. It WAS my good eye, damn it. Limited driving during ungodly hours of the morning and need to be in bed most of the time because having one eye open makes the closed one force itself open under the patch, causing more pain and damage. So there you go.

Have been joking around with my boyfriend about my recurring obsession with Chris Cornell. I love everything he has done in music, even the super glossy James Bond theme song. To me he is the most beautiful, gorgeous chunk of rocking eye candy to come out of Seattle and his classical Soundgarden era: no shirt, long short jeans, curly long hair, blue eyes and big black boots is the epitome of male perfection.

All this, though, is not enough to make me go out and buy his Audioslave records. BUY, no downloads, actually going into a record store, usually deserted these days, CD's organized alphabetically and easily accessible. What moved me for the past week is that, even though I have heard this song a hundred times before, I had never paid attention to the lyrics. So, on a whim I looked up the lyrics, and was floored and am currently going into a mimicry of depression. Thinking about the happiest times of my life, with Soundgarden and others serving as soundtrack. Poised on the start of my adult life, barely knowing what lay ahead and never imagining that my life would be so fucking unproductive as it is right now. One of the burdens of intelligence, or at least being the consistent top score at school, is the expectation that you should grow up and cure cancer, bring world peace or at least do something out of the ordinary. What do I have to show for myself? I am still making less than anyone with an associate degree would and am waiting on grown up brats who treat me like shit in a very guarded, politically correct, corporate way.

I have found many of my friends again, thanks to the Internet and Facebook, the feeling that they are my best friends forever has not faded one bit. I look back to that 1993 trip to El Yunque as the last time we were all together having fun. I wonder, what now. Coincidentally around that time I also met the Witch in art class, so she falls in that time warp that signifies youthful bliss in my conscious mind.

I dedicate this song to all of you who read this blog, that have shared with me even one beautiful moment no matter when I met you, a moment that time cruelly makes happen too fast to never be lived again:

Like a Stone

On a cobweb afternoon
in a room full of emptiness
by a freeway i confess
i was lost in the pages
of a book full of death
reading how we'll die alone
and if we're good we'll lay to rest
anywhere we want to go

(chorus)
in your house i long to be
room by room patiently
i'll wait for you there
like a stone i'll wait for you there
alone

on my deathbed i will pray
to the gods and the angels
like a pagan to anyone
who will take me to heaven
to a place i call
i was there so long ago
the sky was bruised
the wine was bled
and there you led me on

in your house i long to be
room by room patiently
i'll wait for you there
like a stone i'll wait for you there
alone

and on i read
until the day was gone
and i sat in regret
of all the things i've done
for all that i've blessed
and all that i've wronged
in dreams until my death
i will wander on

-Audioslave-
